Accountant/Bookeeper

A well-established and growing construction group is currently seeking a reliable and detail-focused Bookkeeper / Accounts Officer to join their internal operations team.

With a strong presence in the commercial and residential building sector, the company is known for its high-quality delivery and strong contractor relationships. They now require an experienced accounts professional to take ownership of day-to-day financial administration and ensure smooth internal accounting processes across multiple active projects.

This role would suit someone with a background in construction, trades, or similarly fast-paced, high-volume environments, particularly someone who understands the nuances of project-based cash flow and Security of Payment Act (SOPA) compliance. You'll be the go-to person for all things accounts, managing both accounts receivable and payable, overseeing payroll, and ensuring accurate financial reporting.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing of accounts payable and receivable in a timely and accurate manner
  • Preparation and processing of payroll, including superannuation, leave entitlements, and related compliance
  • Reconciliation of bank accounts and credit card statements
  • Assisting with BAS preparation and lodgement
  • Tracking and reporting monthly cash flow and financial performance
  • Generating and maintaining invoices and purchase orders
  • Liaising with external accountants and auditors as required
  • Accurate and consistent data entry and financial record-keeping using Xero and Procore
  • Supporting compliance with SOPA and internal project-based costing requirements

Skills and Experience Required:
  • Prior experience in a bookkeeping or accounts officer role, preferably within the construction or trades sector
  • Sound knowledge of Australian accounting practices, payroll processes, and tax compliance
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to operate autonomously and balance multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in accounting software including Xero and project management platforms like Procore
  • Familiarity with the Security of Payment Act (SOPA) and project-based cash flow management
  • Full-time: $80,000 – $95,000 + Super (based on experience)
